2019 Christmas Break in Pictures

Ya know how sometimes as a mom or wife or human you just rock Christmas? Gifts are bought and wrapped before Thanksgiving - obviously in matching paper with impeccably full and rounded (handmade) bows of different sizes, textures and styles. The cookies are mixed from Grandma’s recipe, hand rolled with Nona’s rolling pin and the cutouts are shaped by the tiny hands of your sweet babes who lightly dust a swipe of flour on your nose in jest. You’ve hit all of the local holiday festivities from drive through lights to repelling Santa, train exhibits and the glorious gingerbread houses created by local artists. And of course all of this has been documented via your Instagram stories and through a beautifully compiled home video or perhaps a Shutterfly book so you can look back for years to come on the magic created and memories made by all!

If you did this, if you’ve ever done this, if you’ve ever done anything even remotely close to a piece of this - I bow to you. I’ve had moments of Christmas Goddess Bliss before - but it wasn’t this year, or last, or…well, I don’t know…maybe I have at some point. Now I can’t remember after all of the cookies eaten, movies watched and living room wrestling matches. It wasn’t me this year, and it was magical. The best I can do is this recap in pictures, and I’m sure looking back in a few years it will be exactly what I need to remember the simplicity of Christmas 2019.

Highlights include:

  • Coney Island lights & Terry’s burgers in a blizzard

  • Slam pan cookies

  • School holiday party in PJs

  • Cheers-ing with fancy plastic glasses & faux-bubbles

  • Gingerbread house decorating in a Halloween t-shirt

  • Christmas Eve traditions of the Nutcracker, Chinese food for dinner (Fa ra ra ra ra Ra ra ra ra), S reading my old Night Before Christmas book and puzzle building

  • Neighborhood trespassing(ish) to see pretty Christmas lights

  • What must be peak Christmas Eve bedtime excitement & a human body model as the prize present

  • Thanksgiving dinner for Christmas dinner & staying in pjs all day

  • Strong family sock game to cheer on the Globetrotters

There was also lots of exercise, books, movies, truffles, snuggles and cheers to prepare us for a chaotic & crazy 2020 that is full of everything we need and some things we don’t - but will enjoy anyway! Lastly, I think the biggest takeaway from the highlights is that we’re really confused about what holidays were happening and when!

I hope your traditions (and cocktails) were strong, memories (and cocktails) were plenty and time over break was spent exactly as it should be. Together (with cocktails).
